Executive Director’s Message
From the Desk of the Executive Director
June 2024
Becky Wimmer - MDAFP Executive Director
Will you join your colleagues with some important work this year?

We need members interested in Education Development or Growing Family Medicine Workforce in Maryland.

Are you passionate about continuing education or growing and maintaining a sufficient Family Medicine workforce? Do you have some time to give to share your knowledge and utilize your skills to contribute to these areas with your colleagues from around the state?

MDAFP’s Education Committee is looking for additional members. This committee oversees the MDAFP Annual Meeting & Winter Refresher educational programming, including topics and tracks as well as KSA sessions and other educational programming MDAFP offers.

This work includes:

  • Determining needs and identifying topics for programming
  • Acting as the clearing house for educational program proposals.
  • Monitoring Maryland’s regulatory requirements to include in program development
  • Oversight responsibilities for the process for obtaining AAFP CME credit and assigning a designated CME physician reviewer.

Participation is easy! We schedule meetings via zoom during an evening that works best for the members of the committee during various times needed throughout the year to plan our educational events.

MDAFP’s Pathways to Family Medicine Workgroup is also looking for additional members. This group focuses on growing and maintaining a Family Medicine workforce by identifying and promoting strategies and opportunities to engage interest in the specialty. The workgroup supports diversity and inclusivity initiatives and promotes Maryland as an attractive place to practice to medical students, family medicine residents and also pre-med undergrad students.

The team’s projects include a mentorship program, a speakers program for medical students and residents, and working to advocate for Maryland physician incentives.

This workgroup also meets as needed via zoom, making it convenient to participate from anywhere.

If either of these initiatives are of interest to you, contact Becky or Madeline for more information or to be added to the roster. We need physicians, residents and students to have the most well-represented group of members. Having a broad intersection of members will ensure all perspectives are recognized and influence our work in these areas.

I look forward to more members like you actively participating. Consider joining your colleagues in this great work and enjoy a rewarding experience!

Regards,

Becky Wimmer
